Support & Inclusion
A Whole-School Commitment to Inclusion
Inclusion at School of Modern Skills is not a separate program – it is embedded within our academic philosophy. Teachers, specialists, counselors, and administrators work collaboratively to identify student needs early and provide structured, evidence-based support.
Our inclusion model is built around three core principles:
- Early identification of learning or emotional needs
- Structured intervention and monitoring
- Ongoing communication with families
Students who require additional academic support, language assistance, or emotional guidance are supported through coordinated plans designed to promote independence and long-term success.
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
As a diverse international school community, School of Modern Skills proudly supports students whose first language is not English. Our EAL program is designed to help students build academic English proficiency while fully participating in classroom learning.
Language acquisition is approached systematically, with instruction tailored to individual proficiency levels. Students receive targeted support in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, ensuring they can access grade-level curriculum effectively.
The EAL program includes:
- Diagnostic language assessments
- Small-group instructional sessions
- Academic vocabulary development
- Integrated classroom support
- Progress monitoring and review
Our goal is not only language fluency, but academic confidence. Students gradually transition toward full independence as their proficiency strengthens.
Promoting Emotional Wellbeing and Personal Growth
Academic achievement cannot be separated from emotional wellbeing. At School of Modern Skills, our counseling services play a vital role in supporting students' social, emotional, and academic development.
Our counseling program addresses:
- Emotional regulation and stress management
- Peer relationships and conflict resolution
- Academic motivation and goal-setting
- Personal development and resilience
- University and career planning (upper grades)
Counselors provide both proactive guidance programs and responsive individual support. Students are encouraged to seek guidance in a safe, confidential, and respectful environment.
In upper grades, counseling services extend to structured college and career guidance, helping students make informed academic and professional decisions.
Academic Interventions
When students experience academic challenges, early intervention is critical. School of Modern Skills implements structured intervention strategies to address specific skill gaps and prevent long-term academic difficulties.
Interventions may include:
- Individualized learning plans
- Small-group remediation sessions
- Targeted literacy or numeracy support
- Progress monitoring and goal setting
- Collaborative teacher-specialist planning
Intervention programs are data-informed and continuously reviewed to measure effectiveness. The objective is not dependency on support, but the development of independent learning strategies and long-term academic resilience.
Enrichment Programs
Support & Inclusion is not limited to remediation – it also includes enrichment for students who demonstrate advanced academic abilities. School of Modern Skills recognizes that high-achieving students require intellectual challenge to remain engaged and motivated.
Enrichment opportunities may include:
- Advanced coursework
- Project-based research initiatives
- STEM competitions
- Leadership and innovation programs
- Academic extension projects
Enrichment is designed to deepen conceptual understanding, foster creativity, and encourage intellectual risk-taking. Students are challenged to apply knowledge beyond the standard curriculum and explore specialized areas of interest.
